WDW Updates d23

D23 Expo is currently taking place in Japan and we here at Disney Addicts are excited to share with you some of the updates that have been announced regarding key projects slated to open up at the Disney Parks in the months and years ahead.  We’re confident that you will be as excited as we are about the exciting changes coming to the Disney properties!

1. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Will Be Re-imagined as a Marvel Attraction – The Marvel Super Hero Universe is heading to Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris where the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be re-imagined as a high-speed hyper-kinetic adventure where riders will team up with Iron Man and other Avengers.

2. More details reveal of Guardians of the Galaxy Attraction at Epcot – Star-Lord and his fellow Guardians will be the stars of the show in a one-of-a-kind family attraction that will feature a brand new innovative ride system.  Disney is hailing it as one of the longest enclosed roller coasters in the world!

3. Groundbreaking Star-Wars themed hotel concept coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Ever since Disney first announced the idea of a Star Wars Hotel at D23 last year, fans have been eager to found it more.  Disney has confirmed that the new property will combine a luxury resort with the complete immersion into an authentic Star Wars story at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  From the moment that guests arrive, your journey through space will begin as everyone boards a starship and departs for a multi-day Star Wars adventure. The hotel will seamlessly connect to Star Wars:  Galaxy’s Edge.

4. Speaking of Galaxy’s Edge… Work on this Star Wars-themed expansion is currently underway at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. During D23 fans were treated to a sneak peak of the Millennium Falcon as well as an impressive fleet of life-size X-wing starfighters which are being created especially for these new lands.  Disney promises that these new expansions will astound guests as Imagineers push the boundaries of what’s possible as they prepare to place fans in the middle of the action when it opens in 2019.

5. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Slated for 2019 Opening- Taking over the space formerly occupied by The Great Movie Ride, this Hollywood Studios attraction is slated to open in 2019.  This will be the first ever ride through attraction themed to Mickey Mouse and will feature a new original story and theme song.  Guests will be swept away on an amazing journey inside the wacky world of Disney Channel’s Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts. New technology is being employed to transform the two-dimension cartoon world into a multi-dimensional experience.

6. Hotel New York at Disneyland Paris to be re-imagined as Marvel-themed resort– Disney’s New York Hotel at Disneyland Paris will be re-imaged as Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel.  This Art of Marvel will serve as a showcase for the inspiring world of Super Heroes including Iron Man, The Avengers and Spider Man.  The updated resort is slated to open in 2020.

7. New Russell and Dug Stage Show to Debut at Animal Kingdom in April – We reported late last year that Flights of Wonder at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park was closing to make way for a show featuring the lovable duo Russell and Dug from the  Disney•Pixar’s “Up.  Feathered friends will still be involved as Russell and Dug discover species of birds from around the world. 9. Even more Super Hero Action is Coming to Hong Kong Disneyland –  Building upon the success of the Iron Man Experience, Tokyo Disneyland will be creating a second Marvel-themed attraction where guests will be invited to team up with Ant-Man and The Wasp to fight Arnim Zola and his army of Hydra Swarm bots.

10. Several new changes coming to Tokyo Disneyland – The first ever attraction inspired by “Big Hero 6” is coming to Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland where guests will ride around with Baymax.  In addition, a new “Beauty and the Beast” themed area is being created in Fantasyland with an attraction that will be set to the award-winning songs that fans know and love.  The Fantasyland expansion will also include the first full-scale live entertainment theatre at Tokyo Disneyland.
