Epcot Kids

This year’s Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is in full swing, and with over 35 Global Marketplaces scattered about the World Showcase featuring an eclectic range of dishes, half the fun is experimenting and trying out options. Though dishes like Teriyaki-glazed SPAM® Hash or drinks like the Swine Brine may be a fun challenge for adults, what do you do if you have small kids in tow with pickier appetites?

We here at Disney Addicts think trying out different dishes from around the World can be a wonderful, delicious and educational experience for little ones, but its also helpful to narrow in on options that kids tend to favor when those tiny tummies start to rumble.  We’ve compiled a list of 10 fantastic options ranging from drinks, savory dishes and desserts that we think your kids will love.

1. L’Orange Cotton Candy – This delightful sweet treat is safe because it’s cotton candy but slightly daring because of its mixture of lime and orange flavors. You can find it at the Epcot Legacy Showplace.

2. Bougatsa: Not only is the name fun to pronounce but this delicious treat which is a combination of warm Phyllo Dough Strudel with Sweet Vanilla Custard, Lemony Honey Syrup and Cinnamon is sure to please.  You’ll find these available at the Greece food booth.

3. Pot Stickers – If these aren’t already a favorite treat in your household then they soon will be.  You’ll find the ones being served up at the China Pavilion cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully.  An absolute favorite for visitors of all ages.

Cheese Soup

4. Cheese Soup – This exquisite dish has been an offer at Canada’s global marketplace for the past few festivals and that makes us glad.  This tasty treat is rich, creamy and nothing short of wonderful.  My seven year old loves it,  so a stop here always gets included in our food and wine plans.  If you have little ones with tiny appetites, the portion is decent so you can always order one for sharing.  The soup is very filling making it the perfect snack to tide you over until dinner.

5. Belgian Waffles – When tiny tempers start to flare or little feet get tired, there are few dishes that can comfort quite that way that a good old fashioned Belgian Waffle does.  This year the Belgian Marketplace is serving up a mouthwatering take on this dish that features a waffle, berry compote and whipped cream.

6. Schinkennudeln – We’re not sure if your little ones will be able to pronounce the name of this dish but there’s one thing we are sure of, they’ll love it.  This dish is essentially a combination of things that kids prefer: pasta, ham and cheese.  Its comfort food just like mom makes and you’ll find it at the Germany Marketplace.

7.  Crispy Chicken – Speaking of good old home cooking, the Farm Fresh Marketplace is serving up another dish that is sure to be popular with kids.  The chicken is served with Griddle Cornbread and Red Eye Gravy. And, if your kids aren’t gravy lovers (mine isn’t) you can always asked to have it served without.

8. Zesty Cheeseburger and Cheddar Cheese Macaroni Handwich – What’s a handwich you ask? Something that your kids will thing is pretty neat.  Its essentially the fillings of a cheeseburger rolled into a cone, making it perfect for little hands to carry as they make their way around the World Showcase. In case you didn’t notice from the title its also filled beef and cheddar cheese macaroni.  Could a dish be any more perfect for tiny travelers?  You’ll find it at Epcot Legacy Showplace.

9. Mango Lassi – The only drink to make our kid friendly list, you’ll find it at the India Marketplace.  The lassi is a wonderful combination of yogurt and mango making it like your child’s morning Danimals but better!

10. Sweet Pancake with Spice Chipotle Chicken Sausage – We end this list with a selection fit for a slightly more adventurous eater or even  slighty older children.  This pancake and sausage dish also comes with onion jam and maple butter syrup and you’ll find it at Flavors of Fire.

So if you’re heading to the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival with your family in the weeks ahead, give some of our kid friendly options a try.  We’ll sure your tiny tots will love these as much as ours do!
