7 Strategies for Managing Disneyland in the Rain 1

When planning your Disneyland vacation, the last thing travelers want to think about is the possibility of bad weather putting halt to your plans.  However, with a bit of forward planning even the gloomiest of days can still be filled with Disney magic.  To help you weather the weather here are 7 strategies to help you during those rainy days at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park.

1. Be Sure to Pack Those Ponchos – Here at Disney Addicts, we’ve been caught out in the rain during our theme park days more times than we can count.  That’s why we always hit up the dollar stores before our visits and stock up on cheap ponchos that are easy to pack in our park bags.  Having them handy means that not only can you avoid getting soaked but you can also avoid paying an arm and a leg for the alternatives you’ll find at the parks.

2. Consider a Locker Rental – If you’re heading out for a full day at the theme parks and the weather looks a bit gloomy then we recommend bringing sweatshirts, a change of clothes etc. just in case you need to refresh at the end of a deluge.  Locker rentals are available at both theme parks and are perfect for storing a rainy day change of clothes so that you don’t have to lug them around with you.

3. Head To Indoor Attractions and Exhibits – Don’t be one of those families huddled in a doorway waiting out the rain.  Both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park have great things going on indoors.  At California Adventure Park head over to Animation Academy where you can learn to draw just like an Animator.  The sketches also make a great souvenir.  Star Wars Launch Bay is another great space where you can rub shoulders with Chewbacca, Darth Vader and Kylo Ren or check out some of the incredible memorabilia. We’re also fans of rides where most of the queues are indoors like Pirates of the Caribbean or it’s a small world.

4. Be Brave, Be Adventurous and Hit Up Those Outdoor Attractions – If you don’t mind a little water, rainy days can be the perfect opportunity to enjoy many of Disneyland’s attractions without the wait times.  While people make a mad dash for their cars or hotels, head for rides like Splash Mountain or Grizzly River Run, what’s a little water after all? You’ll find that you manage to cover a lot of ground why others decide to wait out the rain!

5. Hit the Shops –  For those looking to squeeze in a bit of souvenir shopping, rainy weather can be the perfect opportunity.  Aim for larger shops like Emporium on Main Street at Disneyland or Elias & Co. at California Adventure Park where there’s no shortage of amazing Disney-themed merchandise to discover while you pass the time.

6. Take in a Show – Gloomy weather can be the perfect time to check out one of Disney’s incredible shows.  From Frozen Live at the Hyperion, It’s Tough To Be a Bug, to the Disney Junior Dance Party, The Enchanted Tiki Room or even the Great Moments with Mr Lincoln, use a passing storm as an opportunity to rest those weary feet while being entertained.

7.  Dine Indoors – If weekly forecasts predict a rainy day than splurge a little and see if you can score a dining reservation at one of Disneyland Resort’s incredible restaurants.  Our top picks are Cafe Orleans where the deep-fried Monte Cristo sandwich and the Mickey-shaped beignets are sure to please or the Blue Bayou where you can feast on wonderful New Orleans-inspired cuisine while watching guests set sail on the Pirates of the Caribbean.

Regardless of which one of these seven rainy day options you choose, we hope that should the heavens open during your Disney visit that you won’t let it put a damper on your plans!
