Beer at Disney World

You might be thinking that this seems like a strange topic to write about, considering that this is a site about Disney – theme parks for kids, kid rides, etc, right? Well – while you’re right that Walt Disney World offers tons of magic for the little ones, you’re wrong in that Disney isn’t just for kids – it’s a great place for adults to play, stay, dine, and drink, too!

One of my husband’s favorite things to do when we go away is to seek out the “local” or “unique” beers in that area – and when we visited Walt Disney World together for the first time on our honeymoon, we were pleased to discover that there is a pretty decent selection of “adult” beverages available a throughout the theme Parks. So if you’re a beer lover (or your loved one(s) are!) who’s headed to Disney World, read on for my top picks for beers at each of the WDW Theme Parks

Disney World Beers

Tusker House (Animal Kingdom):  The “African” theme is carried all throughout the Park, and even shows itself in the beer selections! Head over to Tusker House for a selection of African bottled beers like Tusker Lager, St. Geroge Lager, and Hakim Stout. Let’s be real here – where else would you get to try something as exotic as African beer? Not to mention – the food at Tusker House is some of my favorite at Disney. The focal point is an African themed buffet, and it’s a character meal, too! Donald Duck and friends don their safari gear and circulate the dining room for hugs, autographs, and photo ops. Unique beer, great food and atmosphere – what more could you want?

Best Non Beer “Adult” Beverage: the Sugar Cane Mojito served at Tusker House mixes African rum with cane sugar syrup, mint and lime

Walt Disney World Beer

Rose & Crown Pub  (Epcot):  Narrowing it down to the “best” place to get beer in Epcot is TOUGH – there are so many places around the World Showcase that offer unique brews – but I would have to say our favorite is the Rose & Crown Dining Room in the England section of the World Showcase.  There are LOTS of choices on this drink menu. From the Imperial Sampler (featuring Bass, Smithwick’s, Boddingtons, and Guinness), to the Rose & Crowns long list of pub blends like half Harp/half bass, or half Boddingtons/half Guinness – the beer lover in you is sure to be pleased with the selection! The restaurant itself is casual and family friendly, with a British Pub feel – perfect for lunch or dinner

Best Non Beer “Adult” Beverage: The drink menu here is bursting with non-beer options – a variety of scotches (also available as flights!), and an assortment of wines – but I have to say the top pick for me is the “Leaping Leprechaun” – Jameson, Rum, Vodka, Melon Liqueur, sweet and sour, and sprite

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant (Hollywood Studios): At the Sci- Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant you get “dinner and a show.” Here the tables are shaped like cars, and the screen shows sci-fi scenes and clips (just like an old school 50’s Drive In!). Aside from the great atmosphere, this spot also boasts a pretty great beer list:  New Belgium Fat Tire Amber Ale, Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA, Florida Beer Co Key West Wheat, and more. You’re sure to find something you’ll love, and something you haven’t tried!

Best Non Beer “Adult” Beverage: I’ve got two words for you – “Adult Milkshake”. Sci-Fi serves up an oreo version mixed with Godiva chocolate Liqueur, and it’s served with a souvenir glow cube (aka a light up ice cube that makes the whole drink glow!)

Hard To Get Dining

Be Our Guest (Magic Kingdom): Up until pretty recently, the Magic Kingdom didn’t serve any alcohol AT ALL – and even now, when they have bent the rules some, there’s only one place you can actually get a beer here – and that’s during dinnertime at Be Our Guest. The offerings include Chimay Blue & Saison Dupont (Belgium), as well as Kronenbourg Blanc & Kronenbourg 1664 (France). While the list isn’t exactly long, the offerings are pretty unique – where else can you drink a beer that’s brewed by Trappist Monks in Belgium (the Chimay Blue)

Best Non Beer “Adult” Beverage: This is a French themed restaurant, so I would personally stick with the wines – assorted varieties from France as well as California are available here and pair perfectly with the cuisine

Beer lovers know that it’s not about drinking a bunch of beer to get a buzz – it’s really more about the love for the process and the product – and getting to experience that when you go someplace new is one of my husband’s favorite parts of any vacation. Since I personally am not a *huge* beer fan, I also included my top picks for non-beer adult beverages in each spot – cheers!
