Gung Hay Fat Choy! Welcome the year of the red monkey. Celebrate the Lunar New Year at Disney’s California Adventure Park in the Paradise Gardens February 5th through 8th, from 11a to 5p daily, where traditions from China, Korea and Vietnam will be shared. Meet Mulan and Mushu, Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale dressed in their good luck finery. Special merchandise and food offerings will be available, as well as performances by local community groups. Stop by the Paradise Garden Stage for a show. Browse the cultural displays. There will also be complimentary face painting.

The Lunar New Year is also known as the Spring Festival in many Asian cultures. It is a time to honor deities and ancestors, when families gather to celebrate each other. Before the holiday begins, families clean the house to sweep out the bad luck of the previous year to make space for all the good luck to come. Firecrackers and fireworks chase away evil spirits. Red is an auspicious color. Red lanterns are hung outside the home. Red envelopes containing money are given as gifts. People wear red during the holiday to scare away bad fortune. Lion and dragon dances delight old and young alike.

All guests are welcome! Stop by the Paradise Gardens in Disney’s California Adventure to ring in the year of the monkey and celebrate this time honored festival.
