Why Should I Use the My Disney Experience App at Disney World?

You might be wondering, “If I am already at Disney World what do I need to be using the app for? My vacation is already planned.” I have to admit, I was one of those people before my last trip. I hate when I see people spending so much time with their phone in their hand while at Disney World! But, I have learned that if used appropriately the My Disney Experience App can be a huge advantage on your Walt Disney World vacation!

My Plans – Use the app to see what your daily plans are, your reservations, your confirmation numbers and your Fastpass+ times. You might think you have it all down in your head, but it’s easy to get times mixed up or just plain forget about it. It was so easy to take a quick glance at my phone to confirm my dining reservation to see if we had time to squeeze in one more ride before crossing the park.

Attractions – You can use the My Disney Experience App to see current wait times on rides around the parks. Right now, as I type this from Michigan, I can tell you there is only a 5 minute wait for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, but the Seven Dwarf Mine Train is already at a 45 minute wait. If you are in the Magic Kingdom wondering if it makes sense to cross the park to get in line for Space Mountain you can get a good idea of what your wait will be like. This was extremely helpful on my last trip when we were choosing what ride to go to next and were able to see that one of the ones we were considering was temporarily closed. This saved us the walk and disappointment when we got there. The app also allowed us to check back and find out when the ride was up and running again. **Keep in mind that these are estimates and you could end up with a shorter or longer wait, but you will be able to see the same wait time they are advertising at the beginning of the standby line.

Characters Is there a certain character you just can’t wait to see? The app allows you to select which park you are at and then find out the Meet ‘N’ Greet times and location for each one. No more trying to scan through the Guide Maps to find which location each character is at.

Dining – This was my favorite use of the My Disney Experience App on my last vacation. My family was a little behind on booking our trip this year and when we finally had our dates locked in our favorite dining reservations were not available any longer. Cancellations happen the closer you get to the reservation date. We love the character breakfast at Tusker House and I was able to get the reservation the day before we were going to Animal Kingdom while riding a Disney bus from our resort to Disney Springs; without the app this wouldn’t have been possible.

Restrooms – Have you ever had a preschooler who didn’t realize they needed to go “potty” until they needed to go ASAP? There is a whole section on the app just for locating the restrooms around the park. Which can be very important at times. *From my experience ALL Disney castmembers are great at helping you locate restrooms too and many of them will actually walk you where you need to go instead of just pointing them out.

Entertainment – Are you wondering when the next Flights of Wonder show will start at Animal Kingdom or Jedi Training at Hollywood Studios? You can look it all up on the app, as well as check Fast pass availability select shows. Again, no more digging around to find your Guide Map in the bottom of the diaper bag, just pull out your phone.

Events & Tours – If you are looking to try one of the extras like a special tour or your little ones First Haircut at Harmony Barber shop, you can find the details you need right at your fingertips.

Fastpass You can make and change your Fastpass times on the app. Maybe you have a Fastpass for Peter Pan but see there is only a 10 minute wait and jump in the standby line. You can pull out your phone, get on the app, and change your Peter Pan Fastpass to a different ride for later.

Other If you are looking for information on Photopass locations, Baby Care Centers, Store locations and hours, it is all right there on the My Disney Experience App. You can purchase tickets, view your photos from photopass (I highly recommend purchasing Memory Maker) and so much more.

The My Disney Experience App can ease your planning and help make changes while on your Disney World vacation. It can help you balance planning and being spontaneous. But, make sure that you use it quick when you need it and then put your phone away so you don’t miss the sights and sounds surrounding you and the chance to make memories with your family and friends on your Disney World Vacation!
