Shanghai

Look at the bucket list of any Disney fan out there and it probably includes traversing the globe to visit all of the fantastic Disney Resorts.  From Walt Disney World to Disneyland Paris to Tokyo Disney Sea, there’s something so magical and unique to be found at each of Disney’s theme parks, making it a worthy goal.  However if globetrotting to exotic Disney locations isn’t a practical short-term solution, there is still a way to witness the unveiling of Disney’s newest Shanghai offering.

Disney is making it possible for stateside fans to be whisked away to China, where you’ll have ringside seats for Shanghai Disney Resort’s Grand Opening all from the comfort of your own home. Watch as magical Disney stories and characters co-mingle with the culture and art of China in a music-filled television spectacular. The channels broadcasting the event are as follows:

Thursday, June 16 at 8:00pm

  • Disney Channel (and App)
  • Disney Junior (and App)
  • Disney XD (and App)

Friday June 17 at 10:00pm

  • Freeform

Have those record buttons at the ready as the musical event will be hosted by Sophia Carson (Evie from Disney’s Descendants) and will be commercial free. The event will also feature Disney CEO Bob Iger and Mickey Mouse as they join over 3,000 special guests in a performance jam-packed with larger-than-life choreography, costumes, acrobatics and fireworks. Guests will also be swept away by composer Tan Dun’s (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Hero) commemorative piece “Ignite the Dreamer Within” penned specifically for the occasion.

Its a once-in-a-lifetime Disney event not to be missed.

In the Disneyland Area?  Those wanting to celebrate Shanghai from this side of the pond can also head over to Disney California Adventure  on June 16th where guests will be able to enjoy special performances and photo opportunities in honor of this special occasion.  Local community groups will be entertaining audiences with their Chinese-inspired productions while special friends like Mulan and Mushu come out to greet the crowds. Foodies will also be able to delight in delicious cuisine including pork bao, almond cookies and pot stickers.  Those lucky enough to show up at California Adventure will also receive a commemorative Shanghai Disney Resort pin (while supplies last).
